Just found out that tomorrow is a snow day. We really did get hammered last night by the wet wintery stuff. Our van is currently stuck in the driveway, and the guy that plows for us said "I"ll try to get there tonight, if you're sleeping, I'll leave the bill in the door."
The girls, of course, are excited. All except Meghen that is. Tomorrow was her first ever scheduled choir concert. She added choir to her schedule this year and has taken it very seriously. She's practiced tons and has really talked about nothing else since she started.
As a matter of fact, today, during the middle of watching "I Am Legend" at the theater, she called me to tell me she couldn't find her kazoo (an apparently integeral part of her choir concert) in a near state of dramatic teen shock. I was, of course, ticked off for being interrupted during a movie (what was I going to do about it right then?!?) and lost my temper. *sigh* Being a Mom is too hard sometimes. I've since apologized over the kazoo incident, and offered to help her look for the darn thing.
Anyhow, she is completely bummed out, since not having school means her concert will be cancelled, too. I've assured her that they will reschedule the concert, but it may be well after the holiday break before they actually do get it on the calendar. Poor Meg, she's just heartbroken!

Eyyyyye-Yah!
Last night was parent's night for Ellie's martial arts class, it's not really Karate, it's not Tae Kwon Do, we don't really know what the heck it is . . . I digress, anyhow they presented the results from the previous week's testing and Ellie received her yellow belt! Woo Hoo! We are so proud of Little Beth!
Here is something really cool, too. They shut us out of the class - we aren't allowed to watch at all before parent's night. So, last night was the first time we've ever got to see Ellie "do" Karate - and she's quite good! I was completely impressed, she was so serious and she really knew all the moves. How cool is that?!?
Ellie was positive that she would fail the test. As a matter of fact, she almost refused to go take her test because, in typical Eyeore-Ellie style, she told me "If you fail your test they mark your belt with black marks." Far be it from Ellie to let someone put black marks on her white belt! Well, as it turns out, if you receive the rank of "Senior White Belt" instead of "Yellow Belt", you receive black stripes on your belt. It's like Ellie cuts through all that feel good crap that adults feed to kids (i.e. You flunked your yellow belt test, so you're a senior white belt now.) and calls it like it is. How does an eight year old that seems to struggle with the world so often get so perceptive? Hmm. Interesting to think about.

Happy Mother's Day!
So yesterday was Mother's Day and I can really tell my kids are growing up! Meghen is old enough now that she doesn't come home with all the sweet little gifts they made at school, or the plastic decorated cups with annuals planted inside. Ellie and Abbie still bring these things home, but they are old enough to know they should hide them and pull them out at the appropriate time (in years past I get Mother's Day gifts on the day they bring them home).
I think my favorite gift yesterday was a project masterminded by Bob. It is "The World's Largest Mother's Day Card". It measures 5'6" X 4' wide. Each of the girls and Bob made two or three poster sized pictures and they frankensteined them all together and made an awesome card. I'm after Bob to take a picture of it for me, so maybe I can post it here for everyone to see - it's pretty impressive!
My second favorite gift wasn't a gift really, but just a comment my Mom made when I called to wish her a happy day. She said "You're such a good Mom, you're girls are so into you. It's like you try to do all those things that you wanted me to do . . . Girl Scout Leader, crafts, dance lessons and they are just crazy about you." Wow, that means a lot coming from my Mom because I think she's pretty darn cool.
I do like being a Mom! Sometimes I stink at it, I'm still an only child at heart and tend to be selfish and lazy. I don't play nearly as much as I should and my temper is still quick and hot. I think I do o.k. most of the time, though and I hope I don't cause too many trips to the therapist for my special girls!
I hope everyone else had a fantastic, relaxing Mother's Day. Mine rocked! : )

I'll never be able to forget about this blog since I receive weekly updates on the traffic that visits. Of course, these days, just about the only thing that 'hits' this site are perverts searching for "girls in the tub", but never mind that. I thought maybe, since summer is just around the corner, and I've got a lighter load right now, that I'd revive the ol' blog. Last night was kind of a cool night, so this is the perfect time to start!
Girl Scouts had their court of awards last night and Meg received recognition for earning her Bronze Award. It was a pretty cool night!! The manager brought her up and talked about her project a little and then presented her with her award, a nice bookmark and a patch for her vest. I'm SO proud of her - the Bronze is the highest award Junior Girl Scouts can earn, and not very many do earn it. Next year Meg will move on to the world of Cadette Girl Scouts. Not sure yet if she'll be in a troop, or work on her own as a Juliette, but either way she's already decided that she'll be staying in another year! Yeah, Meg!
Bob graduated from his Master's program last weekend, and other than a few papers he has to turn in for an independent study, he's all done. It's truly amazing that it hasn't even been a full year since he started and here he is graduating. Way to go Bob!! He's job hunting again now and we're hoping he'll find a teaching position for next fall.
The girls only have about one month left of school before break starts, and no one is more excited than I am! I love having my kids home all summer and I can't wait for the camping trips, library trips and visits to the Delta Pool. The first couple of weeks are always tough as we all get used to having each other around, but then we start to enjoy each other's company. Come on . . . JUNE!

So, yeah...
Dad's actually blogging for the girls, woo hoo!
Meanwhile, his blog sits, not updated for 22 months...
Anyways, the girls had a really really cool moment this Thursday. On the way to school they were listening to The Moose. On this particular day, The American Red Cross was set up outside the station studios raising funds to assist with the victims of hurricane Katrina. The radio station is just down the street from the girls' school.
We've just instituted a new allowance policy in which the girls are now required to save 10% of their allowances as well as give 10% to a charity of their choice. The girls begged Angie to take them to the station so they could give their charity money to the ARC. Meghen is especially the hero in this one, because she wanted to donate not just 10% but ALL of this week's allowance to hurricane relief. Unfortunately stopping at the radio station would have made them late for school, so Angie refused. Undaunted, Meghen demanded that Angie drive over to the station after dropping them off at school to give their donations. A very proud mom agreed.
When Angie got to the station to make the donation, Jim Biggins from their morning show was moved by the story enough to mention all three girls' names on the air. I was able to record the announcement, and once Abbie heard it she was extremely excited that she was now "a star."

A week and counting
Next Thursday the girls go back to school. The last two weeks we have had nothing going on at all, no appointments, no classes, no running around. It's just been the 5 of us hanging out. Bob has been so bored, but I know how crazy the fall will be and I'm really trying to enjoy the loafing.
Here are a few terms from the current "Abbie Dictionary":
Hackups - hiccups
Sushi Bar - Hershey Bar
We went to Meijer and after buying a chocolate bar Abbie declared that she had the hackups. Then, she asked "Can I eat my sushi bar? It will help with the hackups." *sigh* Soon, she'll be older and all of these cute things she says will be gone. Although, every now and again, Meghen will try to pronounce something she has read and Bob and I will have a chuckle. Bravo to Meg for always trying to incorporate her new vocabulary!
Linda took all of us for a weekend trip to Great Wolf Lodge a couple of weekends ago. The girls had a blast, that place is really cool. Not enough for the grownups to do - no bar, no lounge and the food sucked, but the kids really did have a fantastic time. The dogs got kennel cough from their stay at the kennel while we were there, so now we're dealing with the constant coughing. They seem so miserable! "HONK HONK"

Just a month left . . .
Actually, there is just under a month of summer vacation left. It always seems to fly by. The fall, while my favorite season, is always so hard because the girls go back to school and I miss them! This year could be really hard, I mean, my baby is even starting school *sigh*.
We took a short 3 day camping trip to Herrick Park with Holli and Anne last week. They had never been tent camping before, so it was quite the experience. Holli and I had a blast - oh yeah, and the kids had fun, too. ;)
We're starting to fall into a semi-regular summer routine now. Of course, this is Bob's last week of class and everything will switch all around when he's home all day starting next week. The girls are enjoying the summer, although they haven't been spending much time outside. To hear Meghen say it "It's just so buggy." and really, it is buggy. I guess that comes with living in the sticks, huh?
Abbie has started the official countdown to her birthday and school starting. Every day she asks "How many days until fall?" Then she'll dance around and sing "32 (or whatever the number is) days until my birthday and kindergarten!!". She also makes sure everytime we go to Walmart that I fully understand what it is exactly she wants for her birthday. She doesn't want any confusion on that matter.
Ellie lost her front tooth! Well, actually, I yanked it (I'm SUCH a bad Mom!). I really thought it was ready to come out, but once I started pulling I realized it probably wasn't quite ready. It was very loose, but it was still firmly attached. Anyhow, she looks so cute missing that front tooth. The other front tooth is loose too, but you can bet I won't be pulling it. As slowly as she loses her teeth, it won't suprise me if she is singing "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth." by the time that other tooth comes out.
